In the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Helene, families, businesses, and entire communities in West North Carolina were cut off from the outside world. Communication networks were down, leaving people unable to contact loved ones, access emergency services, or coordinate relief efforts.

111 Starlinks Delivered Hope and Connectivity

The Solution

Thanks to the innovative Starlink technology by SpaceX, Empowering Hands and PCCR partnered to deliver 111 Starlink internet antennas and mounting hardware to those in need. These devices allowed families, businesses, and emergency responders to reconnect with the world.

David Sillman purchased 100 Starlink units, 11 more were donated. He had a simple plan:

Those who could afford it reimbursed the cost.
Those who couldn’t received a Starlink free of charge.

Generous donations from individuals, churches, and local organizations quickly reimbursed the cost of all units, ensuring that no one was left without vital connectivity.

• 78 units were given away at no cost to those in need.
• 33 units were reimbursed by recipients who could afford them.

Transparency and Gratitude

We shared costs with donors, encouraging them to "sponsor" one Starlink at a time. Donations poured in, and within days of the last unit being distributed, the full cost was covered.
